I am a big fan of the other two books in this "series": "Secret New York- An Unusual Guide" and "Secret New York- Curious Activities".However this book takes it to another level for me..most likely due to the fact that it combines two of my favorite pasttimes- eating/imbibing and exploring NYC. This is a very well-written, mostly well thought out book. I say "mostly" because even with all the places they list in here, they left out Pegu Club, La Bibliotecha, and most noticably- The Tippler, which is in fact underneath Chelsea Market. But this still gets Five Stars from me because there are many very cool spots reviewed in detail. I have been to a bunch already, and they do hit the nail on the head. And now I am inspired to seek out all these places that I hadn't known about before.
Purchased it a couple weeks before going to New York for a weeklong vacation. Planned several bars to go to and went through some of them with my local New York family so they could help select a few. Some of the listings in the book locals didn't know about., But there is no way a tourist would have found them. Discovered some great new restaurants, showed off some new bars to my local family in New York City in even got to attend an old-school Norwegian wedding. Really made it an amazing trip
If in NYC and looking for some off the beaten path super local places.. check this book out.. So far so good.. you know how NY is, places come and go in weeks...
